Crypto ETFs Continue to Attract Investor Funds at a Rapid Rate
Crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen significant net inflows in recent weeks, with U.S. spot crypto ETFs attracting $2.1 billion in the week ended August 28. This influx of capital is a positive sign for the crypto market, which has been experiencing a prolonged bear market. Among the various altcoins, three in particular have caught the attention of investors, with their corresponding ETFs experiencing substantial inflows.
Altcoin Funds See Significant Inflows
Altcoin funds, which invest in cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, saw about $321 million of the $2.1 billion in net inflows. This is a significant increase from previous weeks, indicating a growing interest in alternative cryptocurrencies. Among the altcoins, Solana (SOL), Zcash (ZEC), and Hyperliquid (HYPE) have been the most popular, with their ETFs experiencing substantial inflows.
Solana ETFs See Inflows of $153.8 Million
Solana ETFs, led by the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF, experienced inflows of $153.8 million in the week ended August 28. This is more than five times the prior week's inflows, indicating a strong interest in the cryptocurrency. The inflows arrived alongside a vote in which the network's validators approved a proposal called SGP-0002, which will double the rate at which new Solana coin issuance declines. This proposal will reduce the supply growth of Solana coins, making them more scarce and potentially increasing their value.
The proposal calculates that it will lead to 18.9 million Solana coins never being created during a six-year period. When paired with the successful rollout of its on-chain governance facility and its growing ecosystem of tokenized stocks and other projects, there are plenty of reasons that make Solana an attractive investment opportunity.
Grayscale Lists Zcash ETF
On August 25, Zcash got its first spot ETF when the asset manager Grayscale listed The Zcash ETF. The fund was a conversion from an existing trust, so there isn't any data about how much it experienced in the way of inflows. However, given that the coin's price is up by more than 45% in the five-day period ended September 7, it's likely there's no shortage of capital flowing into the fund.
The Zcash ETF is a positive development for the cryptocurrency, which has regained the trust of investors after a critical flaw in its code was discovered in late May. The bug could have let someone mint counterfeit coins without detection, due to its privacy features. However, the coin's developer team pushed an upgrade in late July that ensured that no more value could exit from the network's private pools than what was originally put in.
Hyperliquid Activates Deal with Coinbase and Circle
Hyperliquid, a network and decentralized crypto exchange (DEX), has activated a deal with Coinbase Global and Circle Internet Group that delivers about 90% of the cost-adjusted interest earned on the USDC stablecoins that users hold on its platform and spends it on buybacks. This deal is expected to add as much as $160 million for buybacks per year, in addition to the roughly $770 million a year already flowing in.
As a result of the deal starting to accrue interest, which will be paid out to the network in early October, spot Hyperliquid ETFs brought in $56.8 million in inflows in the week ended August 28. This is a significant increase from previous weeks, indicating a growing interest in the cryptocurrency.
What to Watch Next
The recent inflows into crypto ETFs and the corresponding altcoins are a positive sign for the crypto market. As the market continues to recover from the prolonged bear market, investors should keep a close eye on the performance of these altcoins and their ETFs. The success of Solana, Zcash, and Hyperliquid ETFs could indicate a growing interest in alternative cryptocurrencies, which could lead to further growth in the market.
Investors should also keep an eye on the developments in the Solana network, particularly the implementation of the SGP-0002 proposal, which could lead to a reduction in supply growth and potentially increase the value of Solana coins. Additionally, the activation of the deal between Hyperliquid and Coinbase and Circle could lead to further growth in the network's buybacks and potentially increase the value of Hyperliquid coins.
Overall, the recent inflows into crypto ETFs and the corresponding altcoins are a positive sign for the crypto market. As the market continues to recover from the prolonged bear market, investors should keep a close eye on the performance of these altcoins and their ETFs.
